ÖSTAHALVÖN

Culture Hike at the Peninsula of Östa

The Nature Reserve of Östa and the National Park of the Bay of Färnebofjärden on the river Dalälven.

We begin our hike with a visit to the Springs of Ingbo. ”When you wander into the woods around the springs, you, without doubt, feel transferred to a motif taken from the fairy tale world of John Bauer’s. The woods around the springs have been untouched through decades and nature only has taken its course, letting rotten old trees fall down, both in the woods and into the springs. When you have experienced the scenery in the woods, you may turn your eyes towards the three crystal clear springs where the sun and the trees create a show of lights and shadows that makes you want to sit down and dream away for a while.” In connection to this, our guide shows us and tells us about the rebuilt mill, a replica of the original mill torn down in about 1928. We get to know what life was like around the springs and the mill at the beginning of the century.

The hike continues and we get to see traces from old farming and forestry with things as remains from charcoal stacks, and a flax drier in working order. At the Bay of Ingbo, where the hike ends after approximately 5 km, the table is set with typical Östa camp fire food and music connected to Östa.
